Industrial electrical contractor in Nisku, Leduc and Edmonton
Lock Hill Energy Services Ltd. is a licensed Alberta electrical contractor that builds, upgrades and maintains electrical systems up to 34.5 kV for plants, oilfield facilities, mills, mining and manufacturing. Our shop and crews are based in Nisku, in Leduc County. We serve Leduc, Nisku, Beaumont and Edmonton first, and work across Western Canada, the Northwest Territories and Yukon, with 24/7 emergency service at 780-387-6119.
What industrial electrical work do we do?
We handle new builds and retrofits, including:
- Power distribution up to 34.5 kV
- Motor control centres (MCCs)
- Switchgear installation and integration
- Industrial wiring and cable tray systems
- Motor and drive installs
- Hazardous location installations
- Electrical infrastructure upgrades and expansions
- Controls and PLC tie-ins
Every install is built to the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), and we pull our own permits.
Hazardous locations and oilfield work
We do hazardous location (Class I, Division 1 and 2) electrical installation to CSA and CEC requirements. Our oilfield work includes:
- Wellsite and pad electrical construction and distribution
- SCADA and instrumentation electrical tie-ins
- Remote camp and site power systems
Plants and manufacturing
We plan plant work around your production line, not the other way around. For plants and manufacturing facilities we do:
- Production line electrical installation and machine tie-ins
- Panel builds and plant electrical upgrades
- Facility expansions and capacity additions
- Scheduled maintenance to cut down on unplanned downtime
- Shutdown and turnaround support, including outside the Edmonton area and in Fort McMurray
- Emergency service when a production-critical system fails
We also do industrial electrical work for the mining sector.
Control panels, instrumentation and commissioning
We build control panels in our Nisku shop. We do PLC programming and SCADA/HMI work in-house, and we install, wire and commission the systems.
Our instrumentation crews handle instrument installation, terminations, calibration and loop checks. Having electrical and instrumentation under one contractor means one crew, one schedule and a clean turnover.
We also commission switchgear, transfer switches, generators and electrical systems: pre-start checks, startup, functional and load testing, and turnover documentation.
Data centre and critical power
We build modular power and behind-the-meter power for data centres. Our critical power work includes critical load electrical construction and distribution, standby and backup power with paralleling switchgear, and UPS tie-ins. Some of our work in Nisku and Leduc County:
- Data centre, Nisku: electrical design and installation of a 2.5 MW Kohler diesel standby generator package.
- Data centre critical power, Nisku: critical power for a 10 MW (IT load) data centre, including dual 500 kW utility feeds, 2.5 MVA UPS systems, redundant 2 MW diesel generator sets, automatic transfer switches and power monitoring.
- Hyperscale data centre, Nisku: a 50 MW power upgrade with new UPS systems, redundant switchgear, PDUs and emergency generator integration.
- Mobile battery backup, Leduc: design and construction of a 10 kW/40 kWh mobile backup power system.
- Desert Sun Solar Park, Leduc County: a 150 kW solar photovoltaic plant, from design through commissioning of the grid connection.

Industrial projects
- Automation upgrade at an Alberta food processing plant
- Islanded power generation for an industrial plant
One contractor for electrical and the trades around it
Electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, welding and fabrication can all come under one contract, with one point of contact and one schedule. We also build modular buildings in our Nisku shop: e-houses, process interface buildings, control rooms, analyzer shelters and power skids. They're fabricated, wired and tested before they ship, which means less field wiring and a shorter site schedule.
For generator work, see generator maintenance and load bank testing and standby generators.
Who does the work
Lock Hill has been in business since 2005. We have 20 people, 17 of them in the field. Our crews include journeyman and master electricians and heavy equipment technicians. Lock Hill is ISNetworld prequalified.
